Description:

The Core Professional Training is a 3-day advanced course on legal and policy principles of humanitarian protection.

The Core Professional Trainings serve as unique opportunities for acquisition and refinement of the skills necessary to address contemporary humanitarian challenges. Lectures, case studies, and simulation exercises are integrated into a curriculum narrative informed by legal principles, recent scholarship, contemporary challenges, and current debates.

The trainings are tailored to professionals interested in gaining foundational knowledge, developing a strategic perspective, and engaging in exploratory discussions regarding potential responses to emerging legal and policy questions.

The Core Professional Trainings include modules on:

• Conflict analysis
• Introduction to international humanitarian law
• Relationship between international humanitarian law and human rights law
• Humanitarian protection
• Protection needs of specific groups in armed conflict
• Negotiation of humanitarian access
• Conduct of hostilities and protection of civilians
• Humanitarian coordination
• Implementation and enforcement of international humanitarian law
• Design of a policy initiative

The Barcelona International Peace Resource Center (BIPRC) is a new initiative promoted by the City Council of Barcelona. It constitutes a landmark process in Spain, as it will decisively contribute to the transformation of a former military prison and military museum into an active international peace space. Among the different goals of the Barcelona International Peace Center, it is envisaged to create an active space for peace building and Culture of Peace interpretation, through exhibitions and cultural activities; the promotion of an international program for highly specialized training addressed to professionals active in international peace and humanitarian relief missions; and the establishment of a peace knowledge tools research program.


HPCR International is an independent non-profit organization based in Brussels with activities around the world. Their work is aimed at developing innovative approaches and strategic policy tools to address complex security challenges, particularly in situations of armed conflict.
