James Brockman

Distance Learning Coordinator



James is involved with HPCR's activities in the fields of distance learning, building communities of practice and the program's various technology and communications platforms.James oversees the production and development of the program's distance learning initiatives (podcasts, web design, marketing, branding, graphic design, community building). Current and past projects include developing the program's web site using the open source CMS Drupal (hpcrresearch.org), building the program's Air and Missile Warfare Manual website using PHP/WordPress (ihlresearch.org/amw) and redesigning International Humanitarian Law Forum (ihlforum.ning.com). James is also working closely with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) on building a set of online modules for their Advanced Training Program on Humanitarian Action.

James received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati and is currently a candidate in the Graduate Program in Information Technology at Harvard University Extension School. Prior to joining HPCR, he worked for four years as the Web and Communications Coordinator at the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research, designing and maintaining their website and overseeing the planning of the center’s symposia and online lectures.

Current interests include: user experience design, open source software, web frameworks, graphic design, GIS mapping, scrabble and bicycling.
