This training, the first in a series, was presented jointly by the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research (HPCR) and the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP), in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection, and Sports. This Security Management Initiatve advanced training was intended for senior managers seeking to build capacity for humanitarian and peace missions. Operational training and crisis simulations, combined with expert commentary, provided opportunities for professional exchange.

The Federal Department for Foreign Affairs (FDFA) formulates and coordinates Swiss foreign policy on the instructions of the Federal Council. A coherent foreign policy is a precondition for the effective protection of Swiss interests vis-à-vis foreign countries.


The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) is an international training centre for security policy based in Geneva. An international foundation with 42 member states, it offers courses for civil servants, diplomats and military officers from all over the world.
